The King Opens UK Parliament

The King wore Admiral of the Fleet Royal Naval dress uniform as he opened Parliament for the first time as monarch.

Some 1,400 members of the Armed Forces played a part in the proceedings in the first full military ceremony for a State Opening since before Covid.

Gun salutes were fired from Green Park and the Tower of London, with personnel from the Royal Navy, British Army and RAF lining the route from Buckingham Palace to the House of Lords.

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment including 124 horses provided a Sovereign’s Escort.

Charles donned the Imperial State Crown, his lengthy crimson Robe of State as well as the  Admiral of the Fleet Royal Naval dress uniform, having travelled in a carriage procession in the Diamond State Coach amid great royal fanfare.

The Queen wore the famous George IV State Diadem for the first time and reused her coronation gown for her first State Opening since she was crowned.

The Princess Royal had a special role in the proceedings at the State Opening.

As Colonel of the Blues and Royals, she was in attendance as Gold Stick in Waiting, and travelled in the state landau.

It was the first time a British King has opened Parliament for more than 70 years, since the King’s grandfather George VI in 1950 when Charles was only a toddler.
