Passing of Venus

VENUS, Joan Georgina (nee Russ) Passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on 29 August 2026, aged 93. Beloved wife of the late Arthur. Much loved mother of Garry, the late Dave, and the late Glenda. Loved mother-in-law of Janice and Lynne. Nanna to Caitlin, Mike, Sarah-Jane, Laura and Lizzie. Great-Nanna to Lila and Georgia; Scarlett and William; Nivek, Thierry, Arna and Nova; and Cypress. Forever loved, forever missed, and always in our hearts. “God saw that you were weary, the hill too steep to climb, He put His arms around you and whispered, ‘Peace be thine'”. A service to honour Joan’s life will be held on Thursday 3 September 2026 at Rowley Funeral Services, 16 Anne Street, Devonport, at 11am.

Joan was a Wren NZ863 joining the RNZN in 1951 as a Cook and she later married Chief Visual Instructor Arthur Venus who was an ex President of the RNZN Communicator’s Association.
