  • PORS Peter Lowish was a very accomplished and intelligent man who gave eight years of his life serving his country. And that achievement should be applauded with the dignity and grace it richly deserves. I understand later in life, Peter was more comfortable aligning himself with the female community and, as such, Peter formally changed his name to Penny. I will remember Peter as a kind and likable person who, while serving in the RNZN, always gave his best. Rest in Peace, Peter/Penny.

Served with Peter on Canterbury 1972 and 1973 at Mururoa Atoll. Peter and Paddy Long drafted on when we got home from the UK August 1972. The comms crew from Mururoa I am sad to say is somewhat depleted and more so now that Peter has Crossed the Bar.
Remember Peter well and after leaving the Navy caught up with him some years later in Christchurch.
Rest in Peace, Peter. I hope the runs ashore on the other side are as good as the ones had when we in Pearl for the 6 week work up going to the FES prior to us being diverted back to NZ for the Mururoa deployment.

Peter was a great example of the naval creed and a shipmate who bravely followed his heart to live life as he thought he should to be himself.

    RIP Penny
