RIP Nick, you have reached the harbour on the other side.
Had Nick take over as instructor from Dusty Miller basic sigs 1/70. I then encountered Nick some years later as his LSG in the Dockyard Comcen either 1974/75 before I went to Inverell. Struck Nick again in Comcen when I came off Otago.

Nick took over from Dusty Millar when doing basic sigs course 1/70.
Came across Nick again in the Dockyard Comcen as POOW some 4-5yrs later before I went to Inverell, I was the LHOW.
Good times then, Nick and I working at the wool stores and Harbour Board stores across city on our days off as watchkeepers. We weren’t paid that well in those days.
Struck Nick again either 1977 or 1978 after I came off Otago just before He made CSG I think, I was made up to T/PSG to replace him. Bob Hill was the WSG in the Comcen.
Last saw Nick at a Trafalgar day lunch at Te Atatu RSA before moving to Timaru to retire in 2019.

  • For the time being, farewell, Nick. Your mission on Mother Earth is complete. Your long, distinguished, outstanding career in the Royal New Zealand Navy, from Seaman Boy to Warrant Officer [Yeoman of Signals] to Commissioned Rank to help keep New Zealand safe, is admirable! There were many unforgettable, happy, and hilarious moments during our time in the Andrew, which will never be forgotten. It’s time for the Signalman’s, aka Buntings, special welcoming party. Word of warning: prepare yourself. It will be a long eventful week full of fun and laughter. Enjoy it to the MAX!
