PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO COMPLETE THIS SURVEY. THIS IS NOT JUST A SURVEY OF MILITARY PERSONNEL, IT IS A SURVEY FOR ALL NEW ZEALANDERS.
The Minister of Veterans Affairs, Hon Ron Mark released a Press Statement on Is it time to further recognise those who serve in our military? The statement surrounds the work of the Veterans Advisory Board and answers the second part of Prof Ron Pattersons work of a national conversation that aims to find out whether New Zealanders think there should be a formal agreement between service people, the Government, and the people of New Zealand. To read the full Press Statement click HERE.
To assist the public of New Zealand in completing the survey a list of Key Facts have been developed, These should be read in full prior to completing the survey and can be viewed by clicking HERE.
A Question and Answer page have also been provided to answer those burning questions which when read normally make things clearer. The Q&A page can be viewed by clicking HERE.

Well Veterans Affairs will now be on notice after the “Mururoa” announcement this morning.
I do hope that John Campbell is true to his word that he will be taking this up with the Minister, who keeps dodging any issue put before him. Good timing just before an election.
NZDF no doubt will be setting NBCD state 1 Condition Zulu for this one especially after reference to the Vietnam Vets Agent Orange and the compensation given.
At last a possible win for the Navy and just to add insult to injury pre-1974 considering Veterans affairs not looking at anything prior to 1974.
Yes I was at Mururoa on HMNZS Canterbury and a sadly out of the 8 signalman aboard only 4 remain, Pete Mitchel(LSG) , Barry Jordan(ASG), Terry Patterson(ASG) and Neil Cameron(OSG). We all well now on the wrong side of 65. (Camz you may still be a drop of Skin)
Brian (Pog) Cookson (CSG), Peter Soper (ASG), Rupert Anderson(OSG), Shane Veldhuisen(OSG) since passed away.
Peter, Rupert and Shane all passed away at early age with various medical conditions. Rupert being the youngest at 38yrs.
No doubt those still above ground have suffered some medical conditions due to service at Mururoa.
Veterans Affairs have fobbed this off for years and now we may see some action given that their is only 21 Mururoa Veterans on Veterans Affairs books and an estimated 77% of the two ship deployment still unaccounted for.
Watch this space some bureaucrats will be ducking for cover.
Terry Patterson
I just happened to be up and watching when this came on..great interview etc, with John gushing and gasping, wide-eyed as he usually is when interviewing. I thought this is going to go down well for the next day or so…so what happened during the next news breaks (every half hour) not a thing about the interview..and I didn’t see anything that I can remember on the news last night..anyway I emailed our minister to inform the p.m. to “go hard and go fast” on this, as we “are all one” and lets complete the journey which should have been sorted many many years ago. I await his reply.
Have either of you got a link of some sort to this. I can’t find anything on a search. Need some more information.
