“THE ORIGIN OF MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION” (M.B.A)

A new qualification has crept into our curriculum in recent years and is pursued in many Universities worldwide.  It’s the MBA.   Most folks think that it is a fairly recent innovation but after reading this you might be inclined to believe that it was Richard Pearse and not the Wright Brothers who flew the first airplane.  The principal character shall remain anonymous so let’s just refer to him  hereinafter  as Anon.  Released into the big wide world he sought employment with a firm which among other things sold office equipment including typewriters . There was a vacancy at one of their branches in the Fijian Islands and Anon snapped this up.  Business was going along just fine and came a hot Friday afternoon the Boss said that he was going to take the rest of the day off and Anon was elevated to the position of Manager (ad locum).  The boss departed and shortly afterwards Anon called the staff around and announced that if it was good enough for the boss then why shouldn’t they have a make and mend also . So, they shut up shop and all headed to the nearest palm-fringed beach picking up some fizzy drinks on the way.   What they had not bargained on was that the Boss had chosen the same beach.  This story is true because I know this sailor.
