My brother LT Gary James was part of a Comms team, back in 80s-90’s before he died.
I’m just reaching out to see if there is any photos of him available. I only had 1pic of him in Naval uniform that had since been lost . He was in white full uniform with hat under arm with possibly a sword to the side.
Would like to regain memories of my brother.
Hopefully someone may be able to help
    Thanks
    Sean James

Hi, off the radar question. I am looking for a contact for Electronic Warfare NZ reunion details. I am an ex Australian Navy EW Sailor looking to arrange a joint Aus/NZ EW reunion in NZ next year. If anyone can point me in the right direction or a contact for that info it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hello

My father (WALSH Robert Gordon NZ9187 Coder (d. 2011) was a Coder on the HMNZS Gambia in 1944-45. I am researching his time on the Gambia and am trying to understand what the role of a Coder did. I have a sketchy understanding, but it would be good to know what he did, what equipment was used etc.

    Many thanks

Not sure if this is the right place to ask. Does anyone know what RN County Class destroyer visited Auckland early 1974? I had a brief brush with the RNZN then. I think I was on either the Waikato or Canterbury when we sailed with the destroyer and other ships to the Bay of Plenty. We had gunnery practice there. Either Kiama or Inverell were probably involved too.

    Thanks

    • This may have been HMS Devonshire. Whilst On Waikato,1970s as the Yeoman we spent quite bit if time in company up the F.E.S . She carried the Capt D if I recall.

Hi . I’m looking for any history of my uncle and Grandfather. Photos , information of any kind.
Sid Beattie served WW2 on a minesweeper
Ken Beattie I think was in Comms in the 50s or 60s

  • Hi Marc,
In 1958, Ken Beattie and I were members of the first Junior/Ordinary Telegraphist course held at North Head. The course instructor was PO/Tel Snow Millson, and our Divisional Officer was Lieutenant Commander Eggy Biggs, RNZN. Upon completing the course, the entire class was drafted to HMNZS Royalist. In 1960/61, Ken was posted from Royalist to HMNZS Iirangi [Naval Wireless Station at Waiouru]. From HMNZS Irirangi, I think Ken was posted either back to sea or posted to the Navy Office in Wellington.

Hi, my mother Marjorie Hickmore (nee Atkinson) passed away recently and to enable her ashes to be placed with my fathers in the RSA plot they have had for many years the rules have changed in New Zealand and we now have to prove she is a former WRN, she was the president of the WRNS in New Zealand for many years but I cant locate anyone or even sure its still operating, could you advise how I can get this proof by way of a reg number or something I can show so we can take her to her final resting place with my Dad.

At Whakatane the council allow a deceased spouse to be interred with the deceased service person in the RSA section, regardless of wether the spouse was military or not.We at the RSA have not come across this rule change.

Contact “The Navy Club” through Keith Ingram (email: kiwikeith@xtra.co.nz). He may put you in touch with Margaret Mitchell who may be able to help.
