Recognition of Sea Service

For those members asking about the new badge being worn by sailors, the info is below

Formal Badge for Recognition of Sea Service Introduction
1. The Chief of Navy has approved the introduction of a formal badge for the Recognition of Sea Service for current RNZN serving personnel. The Recognition of Sea Service Badge provides a means of recognising a member’s cumulative time served in seagoing ships.
Eligibility Criteria
2. Current serving RNZN personnel will be eligible for the Recognition of Sea Service Badge based on accrued sea service. For the purpose of determining sea service recognition, the data availability through historic ATLAS and the current SAP HCM system has been used to inform a baseline report. For the purpose of future focus, the entitlement will be based upon the following:
a. Postings to RNZN seagoing units at 47 hours or less notice for sea.
3. Personnel who discharge from the RNZN or transfer to the Standby Reserve post 01 March 2024 will be entitled to receive the Recognition of Sea Service Badge.
4. RNZAF and NZ Army personnel who have posted to RNZN seagoing units will not receive the initial award of the badge. It is intended that this could occur in Phase Two of the badge rollout.
5. There is no consideration at this stage to award to Veterans or personnel who have discharged from the RNZN prior to 01 March 2024.
