Naval Base Open to the Public

The Chief of Navy has directed that the Naval Base  be opened to the public on Saturday 9 October 2010. The Events Office is well into the planning of this activity and is actively engaging with the local community as well as external and internal Naval Base contacts to ensure the success of this/these events.  The Open Day is only one of the events planned for the week of 4 – 10 October 2010; now dubbed Navy Week, commemorating the 69th Anniversary of the RNZN. There are other events planned for Wednesday 6 October (Charter Parade – to return the Charter between RNZN and North Shore City Council), Friday 8 October (Navy Museum Opening at Torpedo Bay) and on completion of the Navy Open Day on 9 October, there is a Beat Retreat/Ceremonial Sunset planned for 5 pm in the Windsor Reserve, Devonport. The finale for the week will be the Navy Anniversary Church Service and cake cutting from 10 am at St Christopher’s Naval Chapel.
