A Call for New Committee Members
This is a call for some of the younger members of the Communicators Association to consider standing for the Committee at the Annual General Meeting in September.
Yes, I know that, from my perspective, most members are younger than me! But if you’re not yet a Gold Card holder—or you’ve only had one for a few years—we’d really like you to consider stepping forward.
Three current Committee members—Alan, Frank L., and Murray—have decided not to seek re-election for personal reasons. As a result, we will be looking to fill the roles of Secretary, Treasurer, and two Committee Members.
In addition, I have served as President for considerably longer than I originally intended and feel it is time for someone else to take the helm. I did have a succession plan, but unfortunately it didn’t come to fruition. As the saying goes, “The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.” A new President would therefore be very warmly welcomed.
Serving on the Committee is not an overly demanding commitment. We generally meet about four times a year, with additional meetings only when required for specific activities. Meetings are held via Zoom, so Committee members can live anywhere in New Zealand, although it would be advantageous if at least one member lived in or near Auckland.
The busiest period is in the lead-up to a reunion. By the time of the AGM, the planning and programme for the 2027 Reunion will already be well advanced. The incoming Committee’s role will primarily be to provide ongoing oversight and then manage the final preparations as the reunion approaches.
