B40 and 618

Does anyone have a B40 or a 618 in their garage/basement, or knows of someone who has and wishes to dispose of these items.   We have a customer for you, who shall remain nameless as this stage, but he has a hankering to  use this equipment once again.

  • A belated reply, if you wish to make contact with Dave Down (David Wescombe-Down) at Adelaide, South Australia at d.wd@bigpond.com as he is an active ex-RAN Radio Supervisor HAM operator with a handle of VK5BUG and is featured here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPglVVS-bvc&feature=youtu.be during a Ham operator exercise at Kangaroo Island off the coast of Adelaide. I believe Dave has a 618ACAS for his own use and may be able to point you in the right direction of the whereabouts of any others. Not sure about surplus Murphy Radio B40’s though. He may be able to assist. Best of luck. G R ‘Sandy’ McNab ex-RAN RO 58-67 My hobby worksheets are at available http://www.rancba.org.au/Ships_Callsigns.htm and I have had a look over the Tasman at some of the Kiwi ships of yesteryear. Cheers. Sandy Mc

The A618 is an Australian version and is different from the RN model. You can see the Aussie setup in the Comms History section – History Of Naval Ships Wireless Systems Part V – the very last picture showing the W/T office on HMAS Diamantina.
