Know that Face?

NZD 4327, John Boyd Armstrong known as “Jack” joined the RNZN in 1942 as a Signalman.  He is now 91 years old and like many of us his memory is not as good as it was.

As a background – ‘Jack’ had served his time in engineering at the Anchor Foundry in Nelson. He was in the Territorial’s briefly as a signalman but joined the Andrew when he came out of his time at Anchor. A few other folk from the foundry had gone into the Navy by then and one of his ex work-mates was an ERA on the HMNZS Rata,  He told the skipper that Jack should be down in the engine room not up top waving flags about. The Skipper called Jack down to his cabin, asked him if he was interested in changing, he said yes so he eventually ended up back at Philomel and was transferred to the ERA Branch on 24 March 43.

Below are three photographs sadly with no names attached our job is to identify as many as we can before the photo’s just become faces.  Jack has provided a list which may assist.

It seems Ernie Dorset “ my really good mate” may now be the only one left in the photo’s.
