Attendees – Cdr Ross Sanson Funeral
Ex RNZN Communicators and ex Sailors attended the funeral of Commander Ross George Garnett Sanson RNZN (V102234) today Sunday, 3 January 2021. Ross joined the RNZN on 18th January 1961 and served in TAMAKI, PHILOMEL, TARANAKI, IRIRANGI, WAKEFIELD and CANTERBURY. Ross was promoted through the ranks and achieved Chief Radioman in 1971. He was promoted to Sub Lieutenant on 1 February 1973 and finished his career as a Commander. Ross’s last Command was HMNZS IRIRANGI.
Many, many fond memories of Ross, especially, time served together at HMNZS Irirangi in our challenging and informative young radio communication careers. That you, Ross were able through dedication and hard work to rise through the ranks to Naval Commander is, without question, an admirable legacy and one that your family and close friends will always be extremely proud of. Time now to take things easy and to keep a fatherly watching brief over your many friends on planet earth. Sail well with fair winds Ross! No doubt sometime in the future we will have the privilege of meeting up again. With your naval standing, I should think a RAS in the clouds would be a very fitting occasion.
Kia hora te marino,
Kia whakapapa pounamu te moana,
Kia tere te Karohirohi i mua i tou haurahi.
[May the calm be widespread – May the ocean glisten as greenstone – May the shimmer of light ever dance across your pathway].
