HMNZS TE KAHA in Wellington
The just-refurbished frigate HMNZS TE KAHA will be berthed alongside Queens Wharf, Wellington from 10am today Monday, 13th October until 1pm Thursday 16 October.
The ship will be open to visitors on Wednesday 15 October from 11am to 2pm and again from 4pm to 6.30pm. Come along, meet the officers and ratings and inspect the high-tech upgrading of the ship’s bridge, engine spaces and other areas.
TE KAHA sails at 1pm Thursday 16 October, 100 years to the day that 10 troopships and their escorts, including HMS PHILOMEL departed Wellington for Albany, Western Australia. Everyone is welcome to bid the ship farewell.
In Albany TE KAHA will take part in Australia’s 100th anniversary commemorations of the joint departure of the Australian Imperial and New Zealand Expeditionary Forces to Egypt on 31 October. Next year TE KAHA will deploy to Gallipoli to be part of the commemorations for the centenary of the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli.
