Passing of Ted Knowsley – JCIS

It is with regret that I advised that LT COL (RTD)  Edward John KNOWSLEY 82023 RNZAF 25.06.1965 to 25.04.1966 and New Zealand Army (Regular Force) U42384 Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment from 1966 and Royal New Zealand Corps of Signals from 1967 from 11 July 1966 to 1 September 1988 and then NZDF Civilian 9 January 1989 to 17 June 2013 passed away last Friday night 21 Feb 2014. Ted, as we all lovingly knew him, passed away peacefully after a his battle with cancer over the past 2 years. Ted is survived by his wife Joy, his children and grand children.
His funeral will be held at 1430hrs Wednesday 26th February at the Pines, Houghton Bay – Wellington.
Ted is a friend, colleague and father figure to many of us who knew him. A committed man to the NZDF serving some 46 years in total. He retired from the uniform at the rank of Lt.Col in 1988 and continued in the establishment of CIS Branch in its early days as the Deputy Director Communications Policy culminating in his leadership of the CIS Policy function and as Acting Head of Operations when Ted took leave to fight his illness. There are many stories and memories that I am sure each and everyone of you who knew him will remember him in your own special way. He was always the consummate gentleman with a quick witted humour, a great friend and a leader of people in his own subtle and quiet way. We have lost one of the best – but we will never forget him.
God Speed Ted.
