20th Anniversary of the Closure of ZLD and ZLW

Would appreciate getting this posted on our site please as there might still be few ex-HDML sparkers around who used to work ZLD and could be interested in this anniversary, which, being in Auckland, may  attract more interest than ZLW did. Off the record, I intend being at ZLW. Might even be some  who remember enough “sticks-n-stones” to spend some time on the Key [Come on Jim].  Posted by Peter Smith
Dear friend of New Zealand coast radio:
I am writing to you on behalf of Musick Point Radio Group, custodians of the Musick Memorial Radio Station in Auckland, former home of Auckland Radio ZLD and ZLF.
As you are perhaps aware, we are fast approaching the 20th anniversary of the closure of Auckland Radio ZLD and Wellington Radio ZLW. The stations were closed on 30 September 1993, bringing to an end not only the history of coast radio stations in New Zealand but also the professional use of Morse Code in this country.
On Sunday 29th September 2013, Musick Point Radio Group will mark the occasion and we welcome you to join us if you can, either in person or on the air.
1. We will have an open house for former coast radio station staff starting at 10am and running until late afternoon. We hope that as many former ZLD staff as possible will renew old acquaintances at the station, and former staff of other coast stations who may be in the Auckland area are also most welcome. We also invite anyone who had a working connection with the station during its operating years. If you can attend, an RSVP would be appreciated to help plan refreshments. Just
email me at 20@musickpointradio.org
2. If you cannot come to the open house, but have an amateur radio licence, we would love to contact you over the air on either single sideband or radiotelegraphy. We will be operating on all the usual amateur brands, plus on the new 630-metre band (475 kHz) using the mighty Dansk transmitter that served for several decades at ZLD. Our frequency schedule will be posted on our website closer to the 20th. We are also looking for operators (SSB and CW) for the day, so if you’d like us to reserve you an hour on the roster, please email me at 20@musickpointradio.org
For more information, and our on-air schedule (still being determined), please visit our special webpage for this anniversary at http://musickpointradio.org/20
With best wishes,
Neil Sanderson ZL1NZ for Musick Point Radio Group
