Who was Responsible?
The two pictures rekindled my memory of an event that occurred in 1966, when a Sparker who will remain “nameless” decided he wanted the “Admirals Flag” that was flying aloft on Nelson’s HMS Victory, Portsmouth. According to Dulcie Riddell, XO of the Waikato, as stated at the Waikato’s decommissioning cabaret held at Ellerslie Racecourse July 1998, it was a most embarrassing moment when he was approached by the RN to get the Admirals flag back. How they knew someone from the Waikato had knocked it off I do not know!

The Olympic 2012 torchbearer, waiting for the flame’s arrival at the Victory Arena were Second Sea Lord, Vice Admiral Sir Charles Montgomery, and Naval Base Commander, Commodore Tony Radakin. They were accompanied by the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Cllr Frank Jonas and other civic dignitaries.
