Where have they all Gone?

Dave Synnott left a comment under Memories which I thought might be worth a post.  He writes ‘Talking of seldom heard people anyone know anything of – Long John Bruce, Tall Timbers ?, Frank Elliot, Laurie Leef, Rick Nutt, Des M?? Graham Chappie Chapman, Bill Ross. And the Chief from Irirangi that did the first Antarctic aerials, If I remember correctly his contribution to Navy Comms would be a good story. Don’t see any photo’s of them.

Rick Nutt has crossed the Bar (date unknown) and CPORE Peter Mulgrew was the Chief who was onboard the ill fated Air NZ flight to Antarctica.  Can anyone else shed any light to the others…

    Graham Chapman COB sometime ago.

He worked with me at ZLB until 1989

  • Bill Luskcombe, or perhaps Luscombe.
    We called him Wilbur.
In 1970 he was the Boss of the Irirangi Aerial rigging.
I assume that he had been for many years and erected most of the aerials.
Other faces and names from that time are Joe TePaa and Bungy Williams.
They were Seamen, working for Wilbur. On our OD’s aerial rigging party
were. Kilkolly, Kennedy, Harris, Sullivan, Blundell and Tyler.
Wilbur was a facinating character, who I belive served in WWII.
He told us stories of sending and receiving CW at 40 wpm.
I still marvel at this. I imagine that his life story would make great reading.
