Whangamata RSA Combined Services Day
Report by Rod Berry – On Sunday 6 November 2016, our local Whangamata RSA extended a warm welcome to all ex Service Personnel (Navy, Army, Air Force, Merchant Navy &
Police) and their families, to celebrate their contribution to the security of New Zealand.
Local MP Scott Simpson and new Mayor, Sandra Goudie attended the event along with many of our shipmates from other RSA’s in the surrounding areas and who made Whangamata their home for the night.
With approximately 160 attending, the morning began at 11am with a complimentary ‘tot’ , or two, followed by a Parade of Flags into the RSA and the Last Post. Long Service Awards were presented and each Returned Service member of the Whangamata RSA was presented with a new RSA pin with their service number etched on the reverse side.
The RSA provided a complimentary lunch for all Returned Service Personnel, their partners and widows and provided entertainment throughout the afternoon. It was a brilliant day, and for some, the day went well into the night.
The Whangamata RSA Combined Services Day is an annual event and ex service personnel are encouraged to join the celebration.
