THREADS THROUGH TIME
Threads Through Time is a textiles exhibition with a difference. Explore the stories of 12 retired and serving female sailors through the squares they have individually hand-crafted using fabric, buttons, and braids from old Navy uniforms.
The 49 squares have been sewn into a quilt and form the centre piece of the exhibition.
Stitch with a Sailor. Part of the Auckland Heritage Festival that opens on 1 October for free admission, 10 am – 5 pm daily. Suitable for all ages.
Join some of the women from Threads Through Time and create your own square using felt and embroidery cotton and display it as part of the exhibition.
The drop-in session is suitable for ages 8+ limited numbers. 11 am – 1 pm Saturday 1 October, Saturday 8th October, and Saturday 15th October.
Free admission. The session is created in partnership with Lynn Smart Embroiderer. Sandy Watson ex Wren Sig is one of the mainstays of this exhibition. BZ Sandy.
