Subic Bay – Do you or Can you Remember
Ever cast your mind back to runs ashore in Subic Bay. John B thought you might like a trip down memory lane. Click HERE for the presentation. It may take a little time to download so hang in there. Thanks John for the contribution.
Obviously Bollox wears rose coloured glasses – I certainly don’t remember Subic Bay or Olongapo looking like that!
neither can i..but it was the best duty free spirit run i ever had..got all the junior sparkers and buntings to come with me to the px..u were aloud 3 bottles of duty free a month, so i got something like20 odd bottles..stowed them in t.p. roll box’s,
and had them in the bwo on taranaki till we got home..remember being parked close by one of the yank aircraft carriers, we looked like one of their ship’s boat’s..
and in the mean time learnt alot about womans bodies and what they could do with them..nothing personnel just watched, facinating..
…and you wonder why you never got awarded the LSGC!
and just to inform u, the bottles of 40 oz, what ever, were only $3 american each
Well I was fortunate enough to visit Subic Bay (and of course Olongapo) in 2009 for a UN Disaster Management Exercise. The PX is still there but it is now a supermarket. Entry to Subic Bay is still restricted to the locals of Olongapo, and all the so called pleasures of that area have gone (or they are not visible) and as I had Gloria with me I was certainly not looking for any of the past. A nice new superhighway almost links Subic with Manila. The price of alcohol is still quite cheap (but not anywhere near Gunthers $3 for a bottle of rum) It was good to revisit again. Returning to Manila for a similar exercise in the middle of next month (going via Singapore)
