Reunion Message

The RNZN Communicators Association 2015 Reunion was held in Wellington over Queens Birthday weekend 29 – 31 May at the Petone Workingmen’s Club. There were a total of 137 registrations for the 3 day event which was very good for an out of Auckland reunion and it was pleasing to see a good number of first time attendees.

The weekend consisted of a Friday night Meet & Greet attended by 127 people enjoying the opportunity to catch up with old friends and ship mates and the traditional rum issue was well received.

Saturday included some sporting activities such as Golf won by Allen Peck, Ten Pin Bowling won by Frank Rands and a Pool & Darts Competition.  A number of attendees also took the opportunity to visit the ANZAC commemorative displays at Te Papa and the War Memorial Park.

Saturday night saw 110 people attend the dine and dance with amazing entertainment provided by the female singing group ‘The Beat Girls’ who had no trouble getting attendees up and dancing to a good mix of golden oldies and some more modern songs.

The weekend activities concluded on Sunday with a small Association Forum followed by a BBQ lunch and reunion farewell attended by 80 people.

This reunion weekend was a resounding success with excellent comments received from a large number of attendees and we also received very positive feedback from the venue management. It’s success was the result of some very hard work and a lot of personal time put in by the Wellington organising committee Bob & Yvonne Ohlson, Dennis Powell, Chris Stokes, Darby & Karen Allen, Bob McKenzie, Bernie & Beth Duff, John Peters, Matt Fogden, Neil Worthington, Ron Bryant, Tony Locke and Murray Nash. Our many thanks go to this great team of volunteers who did an exceptional job.

Also key to the success of this reunion was the level of attendance and the committee would like to thank all those who attended and supported the event. Thanks also to those who were unable to attend for a number of reasons but took the effort to send their apologies and wish everyone a great weekend.

Remember the next reunion is only 3 years away and hopefully we can get similar or better attendance and some more first timers. So start prompting your mates to get together for it, especially those of you who served in the 90s and beyond.
