Reunion 2009 – Report
The RNZN Communicators Association celebrated its 2009 Reunion in Nelson, New Zealand on the weekend of 20 March 2009. This was the first Reunion the Association has held away from Auckland since 1972 when it was held in Palmerston North.
What a weekend!!!!
We certainly selected the best venue for our event. The weather was perfect, Nelson’s hospitality was unquestionable and with most of the attendees being ‘out of towners’ and staying in local accommodation, celebrations were often going well into the mornings.
We had approximately 150 attend Friday evenings “Meet and Greet”, 147 attend Saturdays “Dine and Dance” and 120 attend Sunday’s “Memorial Service and BBQ lunch”. It was great to be able to catch up with old shipmates – some of whom had not seen each other for thirty years.
On behalf of the Association I would like to thank the Nelson organising committee of Pete Lowish, Brent Lindqvist, Bob Young and Nigel Craik for pulling together a fabulous Reunion. The venue, entertainment and Reunion arrangements were top class. Everyone was made to feel welcome from the moment they stepped off the plane. Well done guys and again many thanks.
To the Associations National Committee and Regional Representatives thank you for your support. This Reunion was five years in the planning and without your ideas and hard work, it would not have happened.
Many photographs were taken over the weekend. If you had a camera at the Reunion and you believe your pictorial expertise would be of interest to the Associations membership, I’d be really keen to take a copy of your photos for uploading onto our website. For those Reunion attendees who may be a little ‘nervous’ at what may be exposed, I can assure you the Association’s censor will have free use of the ‘delete’ button. If you could not attend the Reunion or decided not to go, our next Reunion will be in 2014. I will let you know when we have confirmed dates and a venue.
