Results of Possible Effects from Electromagnetic and RF Radiation
June 22 2011… A short summary of the IARC Working Group’s decision to classify radiofrequency (RF) radiation as a “possible human carcinogen” (2B) was posted this morning on the Web pages of Lancet Oncology.

It has now got to the stage where no Government, apart from the Italians, is prepared to fully commit themselves to saying that there is definately a link between RF Radiation and health problems. However, many countries, NZ included, have put out tighter controls on RF Safety Distances “just in case” there is a problem! For example: a Type 89 transmitter transmitting continuously at 300W PEP on 16 MHz using a 35ft whip under BR222’s RADHAZ rules, states 1ft is required. Under the new regime, this distance has been increased to 4.4ft. It has been found that the SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) of 4W per kg total body is considered harmful. For occupational exposure, a safety factor of 10 has been introduced making the SAR .4W per kg. This means that a 70kg person can safely absorb 28 watts – if you are standing inside the safety perimeter absorbing 300W for more than 6 minutes at a time, you are well and truly cooking your goose! Thanks Jim D for keeping us all advised.
