QUESTIONS FOR CANDIDATES FOR RNZRSA NATIONAL PRESIDENT AND VICE‑PRESIDENT POSITIONS

As promulgated elsewhere on the blog, RNZNCA members have been asked to select which of the candidates for the above positions they want the Association to vote for at the RNZRSA National Council in February.

Biographies of the candidates have also been put up on the blog to assist with your selections.  However, there is a chance to get further information from the candidates on issues relevant to the RNZRSA or affecting NZ Veterans, whether RSA members or not.  .

Questions raised should be:

  1. relevant to the RNZRSA and its activities and policies;
  2. applicable to things that the candidates may reasonably be expected to know about.  It is inappropriate to ask what the RNZRSA is doing about something if the candidate(s) may not be in a position to know what the RNZRSA HQ is doing.  On the other hand, it is appropriate to ask what the candidates’ view or opinion is on a particular issue;
  3. forward thinking, looking to the future of the RNZRSA, rather than dwelling on events or issues of the past;
  4. couched in a way to elicit information from the candidates (not a Yes or No question); and
  5. politely worded.

With those points in mind, one such question might be “What is your opinion on assigning Qualifying Operational Service (QOS) status to service in South East Asia recently announced as eligible for the award of the New Zealand Operation Service Medal.”

If you have any questions that you would like raised, please send them to Gary Houghton (garydk@icloud.com) by Friday, 14 January 2022.  Questions received will then be consolidated and sent out to all candidates.  The candidates’ responses will in turn be promulgated to association members by Friday, 28 January 2022.

The RNZNCA committee reserves the right to not accept any question considered to not meet the guidelines given above.
