Answer – The Naval Air Support Unit (NASU) had four fast launches transferred from the RNZAF in January 1973. One of the boats was replaced by a dockyard built boat, the Matua, in 1984. Used for parachute and helicopter winch training, diver support, police launch back-up as well as search and rescue operations. The launches could also be hired for weekends as long as you had a qualified Coxswain in charge.
