HMS PURIRI Memorial – 14 May 2011

Last week the Whangarei District Council agreed to the site officially and the design of the memorial. Robinson’s Memorials and Morris & Morris Funeral Directors have designed the memorial and arranged installation and bought it in under budget. Invitations to the Official Party(s) will be send out in the next week and everyone is welcome on the 14th May commencing at 1030 at the far end of Whangarei Heads Road. The Whangarei Branch of the ex Navalmens Assoc is involved and providing finger food at the Whangarei RSA on completion. It is about half an hours drive from Whangarei and not much in the way of facilities (a car park and toilet) so will be a standing affair lasting about half an hour. Bagpipes, bugler, Chief of the Navy and a patrol craft off shore so all laid on and all welcome with medals etc. If any one intends coming just drop Dave Wistrand a note would be good to get an idea of number but not imperative.
