Jubilee Medals

The following has been received from Jeff Dykes

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen and Members of the Royal New Zealand Navy Communicators Association.

It pleases me to be in a position of forwarding the following information concerning the wearing of the late and much-lamented Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Medals struck, at various stages in her long and illustrious reign, ostensibly to be worn with great pride signifying your service, ergo, the years served either actively as a full member of the RNZN or as a veteran of that service.

  • As a working example, if you served in the RNZN in the period 1952 to 1977 actively or as a veteran [a period of 25 years], you would be entitled to claim and wear the SILVER JUBILEE MEDAL.
  • If your service or as a veteran of that service progressed beyond 1977 to the next service/veteran point [1977 + 25 years = 2002] your claim would be for the GOLDEN JUBILEE MEDAL.
  • If your service progressed beyond 2002 to the next service/veteran point [2002 + 10 years = 2012] your claim would be for the DIAMOND JUBILEE MEDAL.

Here is another example.

  • If you served in the RNZNactively or as a veteran from 1967 + 25 years = 1992 you would be entitled to claim and wear the SILVER JUBILEE MEDAL.
  • If your service or as a veteran of that service progressed beyond 1992 to the next service/veteran point [1992 + 25 years = 2017] your claim would be for the GOLDEN JUBILEE MEDAL.

    Hello,
Interesting article. I served on the Royal Yacht in 1977 along with a number of others. We were originally told that we would receive the Queens silver medal as part of that exchange. Long story short we (ratings) never received it.

Good point Tom although I did get awarded one, I think from memory it was only awarded to Lt Mike Franklin and myself a LWTR at the time.

  • Are the Army, Air Force and Police eligible for this?

    Hello Barry,

Thanks for replying Barry. I hope your well. I didn’t realize that you had received one? No biggie. Long time ago now.

    regards Tom
