WILLCOCKS, John Gordon. Service No 333517 Able Seaman Royal NZ Naval Reserve. Passed away peacefully on 27th February 2019, aged 84. Loved husband of Pam, father of Michele, Kevin and Garth, father-in-law, grandfather, and great grandfather. A service for John will be held at the Waihi Memorial RSA, Seddon Street, Waihi on Friday 8th March at 11am followed by private cremation.

NEEDHAM, Betty Rosemary (nee Layton). Passed away peacefully on Thursday 28 February 2019 at Sarah Selwyn, Selwyn Village in Auckland aged 91 years. Dearly loved wife of the late Leslie and much loved and cherished mother of Chris, Rose, Anne, Martin and Francie. A hugely loved grandmother and great grandmother. She lived a long and full life, was a treasure who was so loved and will be missed always. You are forever in our hearts Mum. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 2pm on Saturday 9 March 2019 at the Chapel of Christ the King on the grounds of Selwyn Village, 43 Target Street, Pt Chevalier, Auckland followed by private cremation. The family invite those in attendance to wear bright colours in memory of a vibrant woman. In lieu of flowers, donations to the SPCA would be appreciated.

BATTERHAM, Norman Edward James (Norm). P/MX52866, NZ12219 R.N., R.N.Z.N. WWII Petty Officer. On 28th February 2019 aged 101. Treasured Grandfather of Joe and Susan. Loved Great Grandfather and Great Great Grandfather. A service to commemorate Norm’s life will be held at the Chapel of Forrest Funeral Services, 8 Glen Road, Browns Bay, on Thursday 7th March 2019 at 2pm.

MITCHELL, John Robert NZ11778 – RNZN Korea. Passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 18, 2019, aged 87 years. Loved best friend of Jan, loved father and father-in-law of Steven and Noelene, Helen and Donald, Shirley and John, loved grandfather and great-grandfather. Loved brother and brother-in-law of Iola and the late Ray Ramsay, the late Frank and Isobell, and the late Brian. At John’s request a private family service and cremation has been held.

BROWN, Colin Edward (Brownie). Service No. 14020 RNZN On 16 February 2019 at the Bay of Islands Hospital, surrounded by his family. Aged 82 years. Husband of Audrey, loved father of Christine, Michael and David and father-in-law of Chris. Granddad of Clinton and Steven. A service for Colin will be held at the Chapel of Scotts Funeral Services, 144A Kerikeri Road, Kerikeri at 11:00am on Friday 22 February 2019 prior to private cremation.

CULL, Peter Charles. Ex Chief Electrician RNZN Service Number T21614. Born 3 July 1958. Unexpectedly taken from us on Friday, 15 February 2019. Cherished husband of Leslee, proud and loving father of Michael and Steph and father in law of Ale and Mark. Beloved Poppa Pete of Skye and Isla. Special mate of James, Stuart and Clare, Marc and Laura. Much loved by shipmates, friends and family. He was my North, my South, my East and West, blessed to have shared these last years with him. A service to honour Peter’s life will be held in the Naval Memorial Chapel of St Christopher HMNZS Philomel (Naval Base) Devonport at 11:00 am on Friday, 22 February. CHARLES, Lauren Gerard Reg No NZ16095 (Malaya). On February 14, 2019, Valentines Day, passed peacefully at Christchurch Hospital, aged 78 years. Much loved father of Heather and Colin, and loved brother of Kevin. A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Christchurch Hospital whose skills made this time easier to bear. POINTON, Albert James. AB. RNZN 16 February 1932 – 7 February 2019. Passed away peacefully in Taupo. Dearly loved husband of the Late Noeline Mary Pointon. Loved and respected Father and Father in Law of Stephen and Julie, Gregory and Annette, and Nigel. Sadly missed Grandad of Jeremy, Caitlin, Brooke, William, Rebecca, James and Shelbee. Great Grandad to Aron, Sophie, Max and Jordan. A service to celebrate Albert’s life was held at the Great Lake Centre, 5 Story Pl, Taupo on Wednesday the 13th of February.

McONIE David John, V20098 POMEA, RNZN; later LtCdr(E) RCN As at 29-1-19 of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Dave has been courageously fighting cancer past four years. He has advised family that his days are numbered shortly, but he is at peace and ready to go.
