HOBBS Dale, C18770 LRD, Regret to advise that Dale passed away in the early hours of this morning, 27 September 2017 after a very short illness. Dale served in TAMAKI, PHILOMEL, BLACKPOOL, IRIRANGI, LACHLAN and CANTERBURY. He served in the RNZN 17 May 1966 until his discharge 4 March 1975. SMITH Barry.J. NZ18279, ex A/B Gunner, crossed the bar at 2200, 13 September 2017. Barry was a Dunedin man who joined in September 1964. Since the 1970s Barry had lived in Melbourne where he was a member the Waterfront Workers’ Federation and later the Maritime Union of Australia. He was known as “Kiwi” Smith around the Melbourne docks and was a well liked and highly regarded character.
