JACK PASSINGS – NOVEMBER 2021

MCLEOD, Robin Andrew. Born October 4, 1934. Passed away on November 28, 2021. RNZN NZ14078 AB Seaman. Passed away after a long fight with prostate cancer with his loved wife Elsie by his side. Dedicated father to Peter and Annette, Heather, Robin (deceased), Belinda and Paul, Lianne and Paul, Fiona (deceased), Kim and Tim and Rach. Devoted grandfather to Natasha and Aaron, Morgan and Leanne, Daniel (deceased), Dwayne and Nika, Tanithe, Katie and Sam, Kirstine and Shane, Kylie and Brendan, Matthew and Natascha, Sarah, Michaela and Haydn. Adored great grandfather to Jai and Amanda, Bayden, Steve, Addison, Eva, Paige, Olympus (deceased), Aurora, Jamez, Deimos, Riley, Athena, Kelsie, Braxton, Abbey and Brody. WALKER Neil Commodore RNZN Rtd died in Canberra on Monday. Neil was our Naval Representative in Canberra in the 1980s and was involved in negotiations about the Anzac frigates during that time and as a civilian (we think) thereafter. Our deepest condolences to Iris, Neil’s wife.

BENNETT Russell (Spen) NZ18326 65th S/Boys ABSEA To those who sent birthday wishes (including myself) I have received a message from Russell’s family stating he died on **12 November 2019**. This is confirmed by his FB profile which is still accessible. RIP Russ.

CASSIDY Eric R. (Butch/Croc ka Dilly ) ABSEA RP NZ19444 RNZN and the many other nicknames crossed the bar, at his sister’s residence (Tangiteroria ). Butch had only recently returned from living in Australia for the past 30 plus years. He had been unwell over there and had come home to convalesce, and looked like he was well on the road to recovery until this morning. Butch will be taken to his local marae at Tangiteroria probably on Mon 29th. At this stage, the reason being is that his eldest sister has also passed and is being kept at Haven Falls, Whangarei undertakers and will be reunited with Butch at the local marae on Mon pm .. it is envisioned that Butch and his sister Gloria will be taken on to their home marae (Te Tirarau) together. They are to be interned at the same cemetery as their cousins the late Valma Mclean and Banzai Tito. I will endeavour to put up more info as it comes to hand..nga reira takoto mai kourua ..haere mai Haere ki to tatou marae maha .. tino pouri ana .mo tenei was Farewell Butch & Gloria sleep the log sleep in the company of your parents and loved ones ..my heart is heavy with this sad news … never forgotten (RIP) 🌷 Lest We Forget ..Butch.

COWAN, George Bryce (Hank): LME NZ13921 RNZN Op Grapple-PukakiPeacefully at Hospice South Canterbury, on Friday, November 26, 2021, aged 88 years. Dearly loved husband of Carole for 64 years. Much loved father and father-in-law of Allan and Allison, Linda and Dave Moore, and the late Tony and Allison. A very much loved granddad of Annabel, Jack, and Paddy. Loved brother of Bob, Cliff, and his late siblings Jean, Peter, and Margaret, and a loved uncle of all his nieces and nephews. Donations to Hospice South Canterbury would be appreciated and may be left at the service. A service for Hank will be held at Betts Funeral Services, 33 North Street, Timaru, on Thursday, December 2, at 1.00pm, thereafter interment at the Timaru Cemetery.

LAWRENCE, David James Q.S.M J.P. (RNZN Service No: NZ15700) Passed away on 23 November 2021 aged 82 years. A wonderful, caring, kind, generous man with a great sense of humour, who was loved by many. Will be sadly missed by his soulmate, Anne and all the family. He was a very treasured granddad to his many grandchildren. Due to current restrictions, a private family service will be held. A memorial service for Dave will be held at the Titirangi RSA at a later date when restrictions are lifted. Those we love don’t go away, They walk beside us every day.

BABER, John Brian. RNZN 13404. John passed away on Monday 15 November 2021 at Waitakere Hospital, surrounded by family. Aged 87 years. Most dearly loved by his wife Vera for 63 years. Father of Stephen and Jenny (Melbourne), Carolyn (deceased), Tony, Chris and Rene. Grandfather of Celeste, Philip, Morgan and Rowan, Daniel and Charmaine, Evan and Carla, Damien, Mitchell, Shannon and Kelly, Ethan and Georgia, and Jessie. Great grandfather of Amy, Lejon, Jackson, Llyton, and Isaac. A lion of a man loved and respected by all who knew him. Due to current restrictions, a private family service has been held.

CLARK, Arthur Robert (Bob). CPOCK RNZN 17538 – 20 years RNZAF 5 Squadron – 27 years Passed peacefully on 5 November 2021. Loving husband of Lynnette for 54 years. Loved father and best mate of Robert. Treasured Grumpy of Jamie, Mason, and Pippa. Home is the sailor, home from the sea. Knobby’s ashes will be scattered at sea.

TODD, Michael: RNZN T19314, Joined as JME in 1968 28.09.1951 – 02.11.2021 Loving and loved partner of Jan Gilby. Proud and loving dad of Stephanie & Andrew, Ben (deceased 2009), Jess, Samantha (deceased 1989), Tom & Alex. Bestest doggy dad to Winston. Adored Grandad of Anika. Loved brother and uncle of Wayne & Cathy, Marie, Quentin, Ali & Sean and their families. After a long battle with many illnesses, and a brief battle with lung cancer, Mike passed away peacefully at home with a view of his garden and his dog on his lap. Our thanks to the wonderful staff at Waikato Hospital Ward A4 and HDU, and to Hospice Waikato. Due to current restrictions, a private cremation will be held. A celebration of Mike’s life will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mike to Hospice Waikato, would be appreciated and made online.

MOFFATT, Dr Lindsay Gerald (Lin). Ex RNZN Retired medical practitioner originally from Waikaia. Practised in Southland and Auckland, with service in the RNZ Navy. Passed away aged 90 on 30 October 2021 at Patrick Ferry House, Auckland, after a short illness. Any messages to rossmoffatt@ymail.com
