In lieu of flowers, donations to North Shore Hospice in Alan’s name would be much appreciated. Their care and support have been incredible at this difficult time. Published in The New Zealand Herald from Mar. 10 to Mar. 12, 2021. Alan was a civilian consultant attached to Defence Management Services, a tri-service team based in Takapuna in the ’70s and ’80s under the control of Cdr George Cole, RNZN. Terry Golds, Sqdn Ldr Graham Gemmell, RNZAF, myself, and three or four others who’s names completely escape me worked there through that time. We completed tasks for all three Defence Departments to establish, upgrade, update and monitor procedures based on new and best practices. Alan was a very effective part of these teams and taught me so much in my time there. He was also well-liked by all and I’m sure there will be many service personnel who will remember him. I know he will be sadly missed. RIP Alan
