HALE, Richard Thomas – It is with much sadness that we advise the passing of Commodore Richard Hale, RNZN (Rtd) who passed away on Thursday 2 Jul 15 at Westport Hospital. Commodore Hale transferred to the RNZNR from the RN Reserve in Jun 1942. In 1946 he commissioned into the RNZN in the rank of Lieutenant. Commodore Hale served on board HMNZ Ships Leander, Cook, Hautapu (CO), Achilles, Bellona, Royalist (XO), Philomel, Taupo, Hawea (CO), Pukaki (CO) and Otago (CO & Captain F11). Commodore Hale also held a number of shore positions notably as DCNS, COMAUCK and ACDF(Pers). The funeral service will be held in Westport, details to be advised.
MARRINER, Kerry Mervyn 28.7.1955 – 22.6.2015 RNZN STWD. Passed peacefully after a long struggle with his loving family by his side. Loving partner and soulmate of Carol Jerry. Dearly loved Dad of Danielle and Sam. Loved friend of Andrea and Pete, Nathan and Diane, Aaron and Macaela and best mate of Stella. Loved son of Ella and Jim Steans. WHITING, Keith William (Bill). RNZN WW2. 10.03.1927 – 16.06.2015 An extraordinary man who was so admired by all who knew him. Most treasured best friend and loved husband, for 62 years, of Angela. Enormously loved father and father-in- law of Dennis and Keryn, Jocelyn and Phillip Dean, Nigel and Margot, Richard and Mandy, Annette and Steve, and Claire and Terry May. Adored Poppa of Todd, Katie, Richard, Greer, Blair, Mikaila, Luke, Harrison, Catherine, Dominic, Georgia, Abigail, Grace and Frank. The family wishes to pass on their immense gratitude to the amazing staff of ICU who gave Keith such special care and love during his time with them.
