HMS PURIRI Memorial Unveiling

Just a heads up for 1030 on the 14th May 2011. A memorial will be unveiled by the Chief of Navy, Rear Admiral Tony Parr (a Comms Officer) at Whangarei Heads. The ceremony is due to commence at 1030 and completed at about 1100 which is the approximate time that HMS PURIRI sunk. It is anticipated that one of the RNZN Inshore Patrol Craft will be off the heads a the same time to cross over the position.

After the ceremony, it will be back to Whangarei RSA for nibbles and refreshments. Everyone is most welcome to attend.

Directions are drive to the end of Whangarei Heads Road then take Oceans Beach Road to the very end. See you there.

Maori TV will broadcast a 3-7 minute vignette on the Puriri Story on ANZAC Day scheduled for 8.13 am. They advised there there could be variations in timing, so one should be viewing from 8am – just in case it is early!

Thanks for posting that Frank – and the good news is; we have some money now for the nibbles, but you will have to pay for your drinks. Whangarei RSA has been very good to us for this ocassion as have some of the other Northern Area RSA’s especially those with ex matelows in charge (well done Kerikeri good ex sparker Frank Lewis and my cousin Les)
