HMNZS PHILOMEL is 100 years old

The Devonport Naval Base shore establishment HMNZS PHILOMEL celebrated 100 years on 15th July with cakes and party food in the Vince McGlone Galley. There was also a promotion ceremony. The original HMS PHILOMEL was a Royal Navy Pearl-class cruiser loaned to New Zealand in 1914 for service in World War I. In 1921 the ship was transferred to Devonport and became a training base. The ship was fully decommissioned in 1947 and the land base took its name. Below is a photo from the celebration.
