  • HMNZS ROYALIST suffered the loss of one of the two propulsion units. The second one was flashed up and we came home under our own steam at 21 knts, not stopping for customs. We were only towed by a pom survey ship to keep us away from reefs, and again by the ocean going tug Carlock, which ran its main bearings and had to go back to Moresby.. Chief Mech Joe Maitland was mainly responsible for making more feed water and restarting the engines.. I was there!!
