Battle of the River Plate Veteran Passes

Arthur Allan Hunt NZD1612 joined the New Zealand Division on 18 May 1938, serving until his discharge to the Reserve Fleet on 19 Jan 1951.  He re-enlisted in the RNZN on 20 Oct 52 as an E.M.1 (Electrical Mechanic 1st Class) and was released on 17 Oct 1954.  Arthur Hunt was one of ten remaining veterans of the Battle of the River Plate.  He spent his 17th birthday in the turret at the Battle of the River Plate.  This was also Christmas Day! Mr Hunt is to be cremated and his ashes interred with his late wife in a returned services cemetery in Auckland.
