A Fine Gathering of RNZN Communicators at Waikanae Beach

On a warm and welcoming afternoon, Friday 19 March 2026, a group of former Royal New Zealand Naval Communicators and their partners came together for a relaxed and enjoyable lunch at the ever-popular Long Beach Cafe.

Set against the laid-back charm of Waikanae Beach, the venue proved ideal for rekindling friendships, sharing stories from days gone by, and simply enjoying good company. The atmosphere was one of camaraderie and laughter, as old connections were refreshed and new memories created.

There’s something special about gatherings like these—where the shared experiences of service bring people together with an easy familiarity. Conversations flowed freely, punctuated with humour, recollections, and the occasional tall tale, all adding to the spirit of the occasion.

A sincere thank you goes to Chris Farrow for organising this wonderful event. His efforts ensured everything ran smoothly and that everyone felt welcome and included.

It was, by all accounts, a thoroughly enjoyable time for everyone involved. Plans are already in mind for future lunches, which will be arranged and shared in due course. These gatherings are a reminder of the enduring bonds formed through service—and the importance of keeping those connections alive.

Until next time!
