A ‘Fast’ Sparker passes
JONES, Raymond Stanley (Ray). Born January 18, 1946. Passed away on April 30, 2021. loved father of Shane, Tracy, Ali, Caro. Loved Grandfather of Rachel, Chloe, Mathew, BB, Bryan, Tali, Josh. Loved Great grandfather to his 7 great grandies. You will be missed dearly, dad. A number of you will remember Petty Officer Radio Supervisor – Raymond Jones from Irirangi Days. I regret to advise that Ray has passed away in Thailand where he moved some years ago. Ray had a passion for motor cars was known for driving fast between Irirangi and Auckland and I think held the record for a number of years. Ray was married to Paphada on 16 Jan 2017.
Ray’s [aka Mr ZOOM] record for car travel between Waiouru Military Camp and NR2 is legendary. The times I travelled with Ray ensured one’s underwear was changed more than once a day! Ray was a good friend and he was also one of the most professional radio communicators I had the good fortune to work with. It’s a truism that enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success and Ray had all of that in spades.
Ka mau te mate ki te Tinana
Ka mau te Atua te Wairua
Ma to tatou whakapono e whakaatu
Ka hui ano tatou.
Noho humarie, Ray
{Death takes the Body – God takes the Soul – Our faith lets us know – We will meet again. Rest in peace, Ray}.
