DIXON, Irene Marjorie (Rene). (Service Number: 37907, WRNS, British Navy, WWII). (Ex Postmistress Hikutaia 17 years). At Tararu Rest Home and Hospital, Thames, on 25th January, 2014; in her 95th year. Born in London 1919, Rene is the younger daughter of the late Samuel and Elizabeth Soans of Surrey, England, wife of the late Eric Dixon (Chief Petty Officer, RN and RNZN), and sister of the late Vera. She is a much loved mother and mother-in-law of Paula Dixon (Auckland), Lesley and Des Flanigan (Thames), Brian and Suzie Dixon (Thames), and Gail and Peter Bray (Waihi Beach). Grandmother to Kelly, Erin, Caitlin, Brittany, Eric, James and Eden and great- grandmother to Evie and James. Rene had a long and eventful life; one shaped, like many of her generation, by wartime events and experiences. She had a strong sense of duty, was loyal and caring and the last of her generation in our family. Loved and missed by us all. ‘Rest peacefully Mum. God bless.’ The family sincerely thanks Dr Hennessy and the staff at Tararu for their kind and considerate care. The family warmly invite Rene’s friends to pay their last respects to Rene at Twentymans Funeral Home, 709 Pollen Street, Thames, on Thursday 30th January between 9am and 12noon.
