KAHU Has Gone!!

For many years Kahu has been moored below the Greenhithe Bridge.
Kahu failed her Marine Survey while being extensively refitted for ongoing duties as a Waiheke Ferry. The buzz was that big new props fitted to make Kahu a little faster had flogged the guts out of her and work was halted and she was put out to graze. Her time was near anyway and these days half a dozen high speed vessels compete for passengers on the route.KahuOver the years the blue tarps have flogged themselves into nothing and the plant life has flourished. But she was still a pretty looking vessel and I miss seeing her quietly swinging at her morning.
But all is not lost, Kahu is heading off to a new life in Whangarei as a house boat. Apparently there is not a lot left internally and plenty of scope for the new owners.

A little further up the creek a 72ft HDML, which I think is Tamure, still sits. While Kahu kind of kept her good looks in spite of Mother Nature, Tamure is looking decidedly 2nd hand. This photo was taken a couple of years back and there is a lot less in the way of superstructure these days.
