REUNION 2012 – Additional Activities

A request has been received from one of our members wishing to highlight the issue of ‘Cancer’ among our membership and fellow shipmates at the reunion. Not wishing to be an alarmist but there appears to be a growing trend amongst Communicators who have passed or are suffering from cancer.
In response to this request, the Committee has asked Jim Dell (ex Warrant Officer Radio Supervisor) who has spent considerable time researching this subject to provide us with a 10 minute presentation. The presentation will immediately follow the opening remarks of the Chairman on Friday, 23 March 2012.
Jim has kindly provided the New Zealand Standard on Radiofrequency Fields 3Khz to 300Ghz for those of you who wish to do some pre-reading and there is also some further information available on the blog by selecting the ‘Our History’ Tab from the Main Menu and then select the article ‘RNZN RF Hazards’ from the list.
VISIT TO NAVCOMMSTA AUCKLAND
‘We now have approval for a visit to the new Northern Communications Centre (NAVCOMMSTA AUCKLAND) at the Devonport Naval Base and this has been added to the Reunion Programme.
The Commcen visit has been arranged for 1100 Sunday, 25 March immediately following the Church Service and prior to the BBQ. Anyone registered to attend the reunion and wishing to be included in this visit should email Dave Carroll at beecar_roll@ihug.co.nz in order that Naval Base access can be arranged.
If you are registered to attend the Sunday Church Service and wish to continue on to the Commcen visit you may do so without taking any further action. Church Service attendees do not need to re-register for the Commcen visit as they will already have access to the Naval Base.”
