Navy Museum – Programmes
Two exciting programmes currently being worked on at the Torpedo Bay Navy Museum.
Fashion at War explores the dramatic effect the Second World War had on the way people dressed in New Zealand. The exhibition looks at the influence of military uniform on clothing design during the War: how rationing affected the look of clothes and manufacturing techniques; the use of dress as propaganda; the influence of Hollywood glamour on War-time dressing, and the development of clothing associated with women taking on War work.
Fashion at War at Torpedo Bay Navy Museum. Open 10am – 5pm daily | Admission is free
We are now accepting applications for our Kids Curate!programme. One lucky Auckland class will be awarded a grant to create a temporary exhibition inspired by the artefacts on display at the Navy Museum.
Mentored by Museum staff, students will become project managers, exhibitions developers, artists, accountants, graphic artists and display technicians working together as a team to create an industry standard exhibition.
If you or someone you know think you can help us find a fantastic class for this project, visit our website for more information, including how to apply. Follow this link by clicking HERE. Applications close 22 June.
