The Tunnels at the Devonport Naval Base, Auckland.

The tunnels at the Devonport Naval Base in Auckland, New Zealand, are part of the historic infrastructure of the base. Devonport is home to the Royal New Zealand Navy and is located near the Auckland city centre. The naval base has been operational for over a century, and throughout its history, various structures, including tunnels, have been built to support military operations.

Some of these tunnels were likely used for storage, ammunition bunkers, or as defensive features during World War II and earlier conflicts. Given the strategic location of the base, tunnels could have served as a means of protecting personnel and equipment, or for moving materials and personnel covertly.

Due to its military nature, much of the exact details and current use of the tunnels are likely not publicly available. However, the area around the base is steeped in history, and you can still find traces of its past in the form of old military structures, gun emplacements, and other remnants of New Zealand’s defense history.
