PASSING OF A CHIEF YEOMAN – Update
With great sadness, I advise that Chief Yeoman John David Titmus 8 Sep 1948 – 19 Apr 2023 crossed the bar this morning at 0129. John’s health has been a challenge to him for some time. Our thoughts are with Gloria and their family at this time.
The family would like to invite all of John’s friends & family to celebrate his life and say our final farewells to our beloved John.
Location: Manukau Memorial Gardens Chapel, 361 Puhinui Road Auckland 2025
Time & Date: Thursday 27th April, 11 am – 1 pm.
This is an update for the funeral of John Titmus.
Following the funeral on Thursday, the family has decided to only open the home to John’s closest friends and family- The reason for this is that they may have hundreds of people turn up and they will not be able to accommodate everyone- John was a very popular fella as it turns out.
John will be resting in his casket at home on Wednesday 26th April from 10 am-7.30 pm for those who wish to see John before the funeral on Thursday. The family will be here all day at 73b Commissariat Road, Mt Wellington, so feel free to pop in and say hello within that timeframe, please.
See you all 11 am Thursday 27th April at Manukau Memorial Gardens to celebrate the life of John Titmus.

John’s mission on planet earth is now complete. He is a man’s man and the Almighty will be best pleased with John’s achievements through his sheer doggedness, determination and professionalism to get things done! John was one of the RNZNCA Medallic Team leading lights – alongside other New Zealand military units – who helped to secure the New Zealand Operational Services Medal [NZOSM] for over 4,500 military people. For that, alone he will be long remembered. His shipmates will be able to reminisce over many seafaring stories and have a good laugh! John will enjoy that!
P.S. John’s beloved wife Gloria and family will now need plenty of VANZ support over this difficulty time. Let us trust the VANZ machine will swing into action.

So shocked and saddened at the news of John T sudden departure across the bar. How can this happen so early to such a colourful guy, so full of life and quick wit.as I knew him. He will be sadly missed. RIP JT!

I am saddened by the news, that a class mate of mine, and many others, has now crossed the bar. We had many a great time over the years, until we both took a different route. My condolences go out to his wife, family and friends.

John was my BBT course instructor and the Yeoman on my first draft, Taranaki.
I believe he was also the youngest Yeoman to get his buttons (?).
He was a tough but fair man. Thoughts and prayers to his wife and family.

Hi Gary, I think Jim Harvey CSG(I) may have been the youngest to get his buttons, another one taken way to soon, not 100 percent sure on that as he passed way back in 1976 a very close mate of mine
