Rest in peace Daddy-oh. Very loved father and grandfather. He always had a smile, a silly joke, and an enormous bear hug on hand for us. We love you always and evermore, Ngaere, Seraphim, Anaya, Túhri and Jarvyn.

  • Mike/”Gomez/Piccalo- Pete” Commons. Fellow Signalman. Fondly remembered those early years 1955-56 Bellona/Royalist. Rest in peace Mate!

Lovely sentiments Wiremu. I never knew he had so many nicknames apart from “Gomez” Where did the Piccalo Pete come from? You might like to know that Mike had a personolised number plate of Royalist ID on his beloved Mazda ute of
ZMWP C69. I have sold his ute but requested the return of number plates.
If anyone has memories of Mike I would love to hear of them. email addy is xssy1@bigpond.com.

  • Dear Christine, Lofty had a clarinet which he often brought out of his locker in order to entertain (or try to) us fellow messmates. I think it was either John Morey or Lance (Mini) Pickett who penned the nickname “Picalo Federoz Pete”…

Thanks so much for explanation. Mike often mentioned “Billy Bartlett” and often regaled me with stories from his Navy Days, some highly exaggerated I’m sure!

Correction to Mikes personalised number plate. Should read ZMWP C89 not 69. Cheers.
