Jack Passings – December 2021

MOORE, Penwill (Pen): ABSEA Service No. NZ3842 WWII RNZN Passed away peacefully at Rita Angus Retirement Village, in his 102nd year. Dearly beloved husband of the late Esmé, and father and father-in-law of Sue & Ian Cook, Jenny & Paul de Lisle, Pen Moore & Sue Hodges. Loved Poppa and grandfather of Lisa and Daniel, Kristin and James, and great-grandfather of Zoe and Georgia, Isla and Freya. Many thanks to all the staff of Rita Angus for their care of Pen over the past six years. Messages and tributes can be left in Pen’s tribute book at www.tributes.co.nz. A private cremation has been held and a celebration of long and great life will be held in early February.

ANDREWS, Geoffrey Blundell NZ17121 Joined as a JSEA, who served in the RNZN from Sep. 1961 to Feb 1970 (HMNZS Rotoiti, Philomel, Taranaki and Blackpool) died suddenly 30 December 2021 at his home in New Jersey, USA. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, son Will, daughter Jenny and grandchildren, Zach and Lily. Due to the pandemic, no services are planned at this time. He loved the Navy, his family and his dad jokes! Just like the guy who invented Velcro, RIP Dad.

SCOTT, Harold George Morris (George): STOKER RNZN NZ9670 WWII On December 19, 2021, peacefully at home with his family. Dearly loved husband of the late Eileen. ALLEN, Peter Joseph (Darby) MBE, Seaman Boy to PTI to LT T13679 Joined 24 May 51. PJ Allan passed away at 8 am this morning 27 December 2021. FUNERAL DETAILS: PJ Allan’s (Darby) funeral service to be held at H Morris Chapel, North Cote, 1330 hrs, Wed 5th Jan.

TILYARD Louise nee Rossen Sorry to inform you that Wren Louise Tilyard nee Rossen CTB last night. Unfortunately, I don’t know any details at this stage. Update: Louise’s funeral director is Hope and Sons in Dunedin and the funeral is likely to be next Wednesday morning 5th Jan. I will update as more info comes through.

EDMONDS Kenneth (Ken) James crossed the bar at 1720 on 22 December 21. Ken will be farewelled on Thursday the 30th of December at Harbour City Funeral Home on High Street, Lower Hutt at 11 am. Please understand due to current covid-19 restrictions, to attend you must have your vaccine passport or have a government-issued exemption

WHITE, Colin Dennis. MNZN RNZN Service No. Y18606. Peacefully at home on 24th December 2021, aged 71 years. Dearly loved husband of Carole. Loved stepfather and father-in-law of Virginia and Chris Anderson, Vanessa and Warwick McKay, and Campbell Watts. Loved Pop to Casey, Riley, Kim, Tane, Jessie, and Cody (all Australia). Loved brother and brother-in-law to Gordon and Pam White (Rotorua), and uncle to his nieces and nephews. “Will be sadly missed, leaves a huge gap.” At Colin’s request, donations to Hospice Whanganui in lieu of flowers would be appreciated. WILLIAMS Bruce Allan – Service No: C17597 Chief Petty Officer Seaman, Gunnery InstructorName: It is with sadness that we announce the passing of a loving husband, father, uncle, and poppa, Bruce Allan Williams. After a few heartfelt final words from our mother, Bruce slipped away quietly knowing the love of his life was going to be in good hands. Always putting others first, Bruce epitomised the values he learnt and lived during his time in the Navy and passed these attributes on through his actions. No more pain now Poppa and we all know you are in good hands with your Mum and Dad. Your legacy will live forevermore in our thoughts and hearts…Okioki mo ake tonu atu e te Rangatira.“Bruce Allan Williams joined the Royal New Zealand Navy on 21 January 1963 as a Seaman Boy and served for a period of 22 years 11 months. During his time in the Navy Bruce provided experience both at sea and ashore serving onboard HMNZ Ships OTAGO, LACHLAN, INVERELL, WAIKATO, ROTOITI, CANTERBURY and WELLINGTON and the Naval Shore Establishments HMNZS TAMAKI, TASMAN and PHILOMEL”

BOWEN, Hugh (George) RNZN 14431. On 7 December 2021 aged 93 years George passed away after breaking his hip in a fall. George was a loving husband to the late Nell, cherished dad to Jenny and Wendy, their partners Allan and Dave, ‘Gaga’ (granddad) to Becci, Emma and Shayne, and great-granddad to Elora. He was loved by family and friends and will be remembered for his quiet and dry sense of humour. Many thanks to North Shore Hospital for their compassion and excellent care this week and CHT Onewa for looking after George so well over the past 4 1/2 years. At George’s request, a private cremation has been held. Family will scatter Nell and George’s ashes together at Wendy’s farm. A place they both loved.
