New Zealand’s Nuclear Horror still not acknowledged say Vets

Photos on a wall, names on a board and an academic study will ensure the radiation damage to 551 men who witnessed Britain’s nuclear bomb explosions in the Pacific is never forgotten.

But what the New Zealand survivors of those blasts really want is an apology and compensation from the Government.

This morning 5/5/2021 I received the following email from my good friend Jeff Dykes, ex Royal Navy Warrant Officer {RCI} and Royal Navy Historian.

    Hi Neal,

I COMMISERATE WITH YOU AND ALL RNZN’ers on THIS ISSUE be in no doubt of that.

I take it that you have read my web page about the UK’s test programme?

It caused a massive ground swell of UK comment and although less so today, it is still very much a sore point especially of course to the RN personnel so affected as are these men in the RNZN.

IT IS DOUBLY TROUBLING when we consider that other than Brits [for it was our test] no other nationality should have been placed in danger and many mainlander Australians were. IT BEGGARS BELIEF that the NZ Authorities have not addressed this dreadful state of irresolvable repetitive illness caused by huge doses of radiation, not just to the RNZN sailors irresponsibly placed on the front line, but to their close families and probably, albeit it reduced one hopes in time to come, to generations to come if current adult family members decide to procreate?

It is a ghastly affair and one which should demand the closest scrutiny and immediacy in resolving at the highest level, that’s above the Prime Minster level!

With our FOI Act we can see much about experiments on Nuclear experiments and disgusting some are – to be read in future times meanwhile keep as a reference background reading Cold War at Porton Down: Informed Consent in Britain’s Biological and Chemical Warfare Experiments (nih.gov)

Scroll to HEALTH EFFECTS in this URL The United Kingdom’s Nuclear Testing Programme: CTBTO Preparatory Commission – A DISTURBING READ!!

We have much to be ashamed of, and I believe that using convenient parts of the world WITHOUT PERMISSION just to try out our experiments is TAUNTAMOUNT to EVIL ITSELF.

MY HEART GOES OUT TO YOUR COLLEAGUES for the way they and their close family members have and continue to suffer, and for my money, the UK AT THE VERY LEAST IN FINANCIAL COMPENSATION MODE should be HELD PARTLY TO BLAME.

Emu Field A major nuclear test was detonated at Emu Field in the South Australian desert on 15 October 1953, sending a radioactive cloud known as the “Black Mist” over a 250 km 2 area. The Australian newspaper The Guardian, 4 October 2006, claims that the test was held responsible for a sudden outbreak of sickness and death experienced by Aboriginal communities exposed to the “Black Mist …

Don’t worry about the tail end shortened in the process but be assured nothing is missing from the story.
