I’m still awaiting a reply to two questions from over three months ago.. one being why no navy on the minister’s advisory board, the second his new medal and what was it given for…

I applied to Veterans Affairs (VA) on 17 Dec 2018 to have an existing condition included for issues to be added to my existing VA entitlement.

I received no response for 3 months.

On 29 Mar /2019 I received an email from VA stating “You will recall that you were contacted last month about staying in touch regarding your application. Unfortunately your claim has not yet been assessed, however we have put a number of strategies in place to process claims as quickly as possible.”

On 29 April 2019 I received a further email from VA as follows: “I am writing to update you on the progress of your application for new medical conditions.

Unfortunately your application has not yet been assessed. We are endeavouring to process applications as swiftly as possible.”

On 30 May 2019 VA advised: “I am writing to update you on the progress of your application for new medical conditions.

Unfortunately your application has not yet been assessed. We’re currently working to finalise a large number of claims and we are bringing in extra staff to help get us up to date. We do thank you for your patience while we manage this.”

I rang VA on 8 Aug and spoke with a senior advisor who suggested I be more patient.

On 16 Aug 2019 I was approached by a specialist contracted by VA to make an appointment to have them meet to test my eye condition as to my VA application. I attended that appointment on 20 Aug 2019.

On 05 Sept 2019 I received an email from VA advising my application was successful and they would be adjusting my VA pension accordingly.

So, from application to an accepted condition VA took 9 months.

I have been advised by many in VA that this is the normal time-frame to reach a decision at this time.
