  1. Ken was a great contributor to our Association Nora – we are going to miss his smiling face. Our thoughts are with you and your family at this sad time. Rest in Peace Ken.

I will always remember Ken one time about 1951 trailing along behind us on the Desert Rd on his Matchless 500 with Don Campbell as pillion heading north for the Extended Long Weekend Leave. Three of us were precariously perched on the bolster of a logging truck from the Taupo Totara Timber Companies Mill at Hatepe and facing aft. Ken would glide through the corners but the shock absorbers we were riding on had other ideas. RIP Ken.

I will always remember sometime in 1951 Ken riding along the Desert Rd. on his Matchless 500 with Don Campbell on the pillion. Myself, Stan Larking and George Hilliar had hitch-hiked a ride on a logging truck (Taupo Totara Timber Co. Hatepe) and were sitting on the bolster facing aft. Ken would take the corners smoothly as the professional he was but the shock absorbers under our seat were not quite so kind. RIP Ken.

I also remember Ken well and send my sympathy to his family – I’m not sure if he was on Tamaki at the same time (I was 3rd Tels – NZ11400) but I was at Irirangi at the same time as Ken. And like Ken, I enjoy reading the regular emails but the names I remember are getting fewer and fewer! Albie Cross mentioned Don Campbell (classmate of mine) and George Hilliar, names I remember of old.

Regretfully ZL!BEG is now a silent key but his character and his CW will be long remembered by his shipmates and the members of the North Shore Amateur Radio Association. 73 Ken. Peter ZL1ARB
